Class Descriptions
Chair Aerobics
Exercise to music from a seated position and a good first step into exercise.
Great for joint mobility as well as top to toe toning, alternatives are
available for those who feel more able. You will be surprised at how hard
you can work while seated!
Aquafit
Water based exercise to music. The water creates muscle resistance and
is an excellent way to condition your body. Fantastic if you have joint
problems.
Gym Sessions
Specialist instructors are present during these sessions and a full induction
and programme will be given specific to your needs. You can use treadmills,
rowing machines, steppers and stationary bikes to boost your fitness level
and strengthen your heart and lungs. You will also learn how to use resistance
machines to strengthen and tone your muscles using light weights. These
sessions can only be accessed through the Lifestyle Referral Scheme via
your GP or health professional.
Class Diamonds
A 12 week block which includes an hour of varied exercise, light
refreshment and guest speakers giving presentations on healthy eating,
osteoporosis, diabetes and many more interesting topics. Each session
lasts 2 hours and is free. After the initial 12 week block an exercise
class will continue if there is suitable demand.
Low Impact Aerobics
Exercise to music tailored to meet the needs of the class participants.
Classes may involve some line dancing, easy salsa, mobility, toning and
relaxation. A fun class for those who want to do a little bit more.
Jogging
This is a beginners class and will always be suited to people who are
new to jogging. Two instructors will guide you throughout the route at
a pace you are comfortable with. When you feel you are no longer a beginner
we will direct you to a running club in your area.
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
This is a term used for a number of conditions; including chronic bronchitis
and emphysema. We offer a circuit based class aimed at improving cardiovascular
endurance amongst people with respiratory problems.
Cardiac Referral
Classes are designed to suit those who have heart related problems
and are a crucial part of recovery and prevention for all cardiac patients.
The format of the class is both circuit based and aerobic and is supervised
by a qualified British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase 4 Instructor.
Each class lasts for 1 hour and is composed of a warm up, conditioning
phase and relaxation.
All classes are suitable for men and women and are led by highly motivated
qualified instuctors. Whether you are new to exercise or already active,
as you can see from our timetable, classes are affordable and hopefully
there is one near you. If not please contact chip@east-ayrshire.gov.uk
and we can possibly set up a class into your community.
