C.H.I.P. Van

image of the outside of the CHIP vanThe C.H.I.P van parks in various locations within the 28 target communities to allow as many of the residents as possible to visit us. This includes local shops, sports centres, schools, yards or even on your doorstep!

What's on the van?

The van, which has full wheelchair access, acts as a central information point for all health related issues. It has Internet access as well as a comprehensive health library, promotional display area and a consultation room. There is also a projector and video library, and a detailed database of groups, clubs and activities that take place within your area.

What's on offer?

The two full time Health Development Officers can offer Exercise and Lifestyle Consultations as well as Dietary Analysis to residents.

The Project also offers structured Health sessions and exercise classes which include Tai-chi, Reflexology and Yoga to community groups along with healthy eating demonstrations and the 5 minute no sweat health check.

What is the Health Check?

We take your Blood Pressure, test your Lung Capacity and take your Height/Weight and body fat % and discuss lifestyle issues such as eating habits, activity levels and smoking and drinking levels.

How can I lose some weight?

By eating healthily and becoming active – you must take in less calories that you use to create a deficit, we can perform a dietary analysis to find out how many calories and how healthy your diet is, and give advice and act as a signpost service to activity classes in your community.

How can I lower my Blood Pressure?

By eating healthily, taking regular exercise and by avoiding certain stressful situations. Although some levels of blood pressure must be controlled by medication.

How can I lower my cholesterol levels?

Cholesterol is a fatty substance, which in moderation is essential to a healthy life, it is manufactured in the liver and is also generated by the foods we eat. Some people absorb and produce more cholesterol than they need. To control the level of cholesterol produced by the body it may be necessary to change the food you eat.
